John's Vocal Range

Here is a great video displaying the extraordinarily wide vocal range shared by both John and Paul throughout their entire Beatles catalog.

How common is it for one person to be able to sing with that wide of a range, let alone two people that just happened to meet and form a band together?

They sure do get by with a little help from their friends - (fellow cloneys).

Why are his lips so dark in that picture?

No Mandela effect here. The sound reproduction on this video is just badly done and extremely distorted. That's apparent even from the piano introduction, which is obviously out of kilter.

To my eyes, his mouth is dark because it's open. The photo resolution has the darks very dark here.

At least that's my take on these.
